The term amphitheater itself, rooted in the ancient Greek word ἀμφι-θέατρον, meaning ‘on both sides’ or ‘all around,’ and “place for viewing”, signifies venues built to evoke a sense of monumental presence and spatial relationship. Dating back to 80 BCE with the amphitheater of Pompeii, and even earlier Greek theaters from the 6th century BCE, these structures symbolize the celebration of space, proportion, and relation – concepts vividly captured in this table.
